Click on the colored box to the right of the Width (In Figure 8, the box is black).

If it doesnвЂ™t, highlight the field by clicking & dragging across the text in the field and typing 1 px to replace it.

In the Tool Options bar in the field next to Width as seen in Figure 8, verify it says 1 px (px=pixel).

For instance, the Line Tool has a number of options for it including line width and line color.

As you select a tool, the Tool Options bar changes in relation to the selected tool. This area is called the Tool Options bar (see Figure 8). At the bottom of the Elements Editor window, there is a bar with a series of icons, number fields, and drop-down menus.You will now notice the Shape Tool changes to the Line Tool in the Toolbox. Click on the Shape Tool icon to reveal the Tool Options bar at the bottom of the screen (see Figure 7). We will start by using the Shape Tool, which is located in the DRAW area in the 3rd row/2nd column (by default, the Custom Shape Tool (blob-shaped icon) is active).If you move your cursor over any icon, the name of the tool pops up. This area is called the Toolbox and each icon represents a specific tool that can be used in Elements. On the left side of the Elements Editor Window, there are a series of icons (see Figure 5). Now, we will create five triangles in the top row of our new file (there will be a total of three rows in this image).This will set the background of our new blank file to white (see Figure 4).

Move your cursor over the word White to highlight it and click to select it.

At the bottom of the New window, click on the down-triangle next to the words Background Contents.

Do the same for the Height, but, instead of 640, type in 480. Double-click in the number field to the right of the word Width and the number will highlight. Next to the words Width and Height, make sure Pixels is shown and not Inches (see Figure 4). In the Menu Bar at the top of the screen, click File/New/Blank File.

Now, we will create a new document and set our document settings.

In the top section of the Photoshop Elements Editor window, click on the Expert button in the Mode Selector area.

The Photoshop Elements Quick Editor window will now appear.

If the purchase was made through a 3rd party, create an Adobe ID (unless you have one from another purchase) at by clicking on 'Sign In'.

If the software was purchased directly from, then use the e-mail associated to your purchase to log-in. In the latest versions of Elements, an Adobe ID is required to sign-in. Click on the Photo Editor button to start Elements. The Welcome Screen window appears on screen. Launch Photoshop Elements by going to Start/Adobe Photoshop Elements.*The ALT key in Windows is the Option key on the Mac. *The CTRL key in Windows is the Command/Apple key on the Mac.
